Otis Nealy Grandgenette, son of Nealy W. and Ida M. (Butts) Grandgenette, was born July 7, 1925 at the family home in rural Monona County, Iowa. He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa at the age of 88.
Otis was raised on a farm near Pisgah, Iowa. He attended Hebb Country School then Pisgah High School. On June 5, 1945 Otis was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas in Germany guarding German prisoners. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1946. Following his discharge, he moved back to Monona County for a short time then moved with his parents to a farm near Decatur, Nebraska. Otis farmed with his parents. In 1971, the family moved to Onawa and Otis went to work for Seitzinger Farms then helped John Falk farm until his retirement. In later years, Otis was a caregiver for his parents. He made his home in Onawa until May of 2012 when he moved to Pleasant View Care Center.
Otis enjoyed his dog (Tug) and cat (Susie); watching Westerns; and watching sporting events on television. While living at Pleasant View, he enjoyed the birds and squirrels. Otis was baptized at First Christian Church in Onawa. He had been a member of David McNeill American Legion Post #129 in Onawa.
Otis is survived by one sister, Ruth M. Young of Flatwood, KY; one sister-in-law, Elsie Grandgenett of Onawa, IA; many nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; other relatives and friends.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ben Grandgenett and Harlan (Darlene) Grandgenett; one sister, Frances (Glen) Thompson; and one brother-in-law, Leo Campbell.
