Florence B. Nagel, daughter of Minor and Mary (Smith) Barnes, was born June 3, 1921 in Center Township, Monona County, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 92.
Florence was raised and educated in Monona County. On March 28, 1938, she was united in marriage to Waldemar “Walt” L. Nagel in Denison, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The family made their home in the Onawa area. Walt died on April 13, 1979.
After Walt’s death, Florence took nurse’s aide training at Western Iowa Tech. Community College. For the past thirty-five years, Florence had been self employed and provided home care for several handicapped individuals. Through the years, Florence was a hard worker and never understood the word retired.
Florence enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and raising beautiful house plants and sharing them with others. She loved her home and was always available to help and care for her many family members. Florence was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa.
Florence in survived by three children: Robert W. Nagel and wife Roberta of Onawa, IA, Loretta L. Kelly of Fredericksburg, VA and Raymond E. Nagel of Spotsylvania, VA; seventeen grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; thirty-five great great grandchildren; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter in infancy; one son, Richard L. Nagel and wife Laverne; daughter-in-law, Lynn Nagel; son-in-law, Glenn Kelly; one grandson, Butch Nagel; and twelve siblings and their spouses.
