Elsie Eileen Dunbar, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Hutchens) Hoover, was born September 22, 1921 at home in Dallas County, IA. She died on Monday, December 14, 2015, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, IA at the age of 94.
Eileen grew up in Wiscotta, IA and attended school at Redfield. After graduating from high school, she started teaching at Dale City country school.
On November 27, 1942, Eileen was united in marriage to Norval O. Dunbar in Maryville, MO and to this union three children were born: Carolyn Ann, Norman L. and Gary W. The family lived in Yetter, IA and Eileen taught at Lake City until they moved to Whiting. She taught elementary education at Onawa for several years until her retirement. During these years, she took classes at Morningside College to receive her bachelor’s degree.
Eileen was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Onawa. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and canning.
Eileen is survived by one son, Norman Dunbar and wife Pamela of Whiting, IA; son-in-law, William Servais of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Christopher A. Solberg and wife Jennifer of Papillion, NE, Jared Solberg of Portland, OR, Matthew Dunbar of Sioux City, IA and Elizabeth Dunbar of Laurens, IA; great grandchildren: Catherine Warren, Grace Hoffman, Isaiah Hoffman; Jesse Baumgarten, Madison Solberg; and Austin Solberg, Jonathan Greenfield, Savannah Solberg and Beckett Solberg; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norval O. Dunbar of December 14, 2004; one daughter, Carolyn Servais; one son, Gary Dunbar; two brothers and one sister: Merle Hoover, Forrest Hoover and Lavonne Denton.
