Margaret Louise Downing, daughter of Robert and Louise (Andersboyce) Boyce, was born March 3, 1952 at Oceanside, CA. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at her home in Oto, IA at the age of 63.
Margaret grew up and attended school in Long Beach, CA. She met her future husband, Paul Daniel Downing, while he was serving in the United States Navy in California. They were united in marriage on March 9, 1970 in Sioux City, IA and three children were born to this union: Bryan, David and Crystal. The family moved to the Oto area in 1977. Margaret worked as a CNA at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton and then helped construct grain bins for Matt Petersen.
Margaret was an active member of the Oto United Church of Christ. She was involved with the Ladies Mite Society; the Wednesday night Footprints Program, Vacation Bible School; summer campouts with the kids; and took care of the church building.
Margaret loved her rescue dogs; enjoyed being outdoors; was an avid Oakland Raiders fan but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Paul “Butch” Downing of Oto, IA; three children: Bryan (Shannon) Downing of Oto, IA, David (Tammy) Downing of Oto, IA, and Crystal Downing (Jeremy Kretz) of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren: Alisha Downing, Abby Downing, Tabitha Kretz, Katie Downing, Amanda Downing and David Downing; one sister-in-law, Sally Downing of Des Moines, IA nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Roberta “Penny” Keptra.
