Violet R. Carlson, 86, of Mapleton, IA formerly of Smithland, IA died September 11, 2015, at Maple Heights Care Center.
Violet Rae, daughter of Alfred and Florence (Bollmeyer) Sands, was born August 26, 1929, near Danbury, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Midway) near Battle Creek, IA. She attended country school at Miller Township, rural Danbury.
On October 1, 1949, Violet was united in marriage to Emery Carlson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed for many years in the Oto and Smithland area before moving into Smithland in 1979. While living in Smithland, she was the custodian of the United Methodist Church for many years. In recent years, Violet has made her home in Mapleton.
Violet was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. She enjoyed playing cards, family scrapbooking and attending family events.
Violet is survived by two sisters-in-law: Marjorie Smith of Mapleton, IA and Barbara Carlson of Sioux City, IA; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emery; and two brothers in infancy.
