Bob Reitan, 68, of Whiting, IA went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at home with his wife by his side.
Robert Estil “Bob” Reitan, son of Albert and Hazel (Martin) Reitan, was born July 11, 1947, in Onawa, IA. Bob grew up in the Albaton area and attended Sloan Schools. His class was the first graduating class of Westwood Community School in 1965. Following high school, he attended a welding trade school in Chicago, IL for six months. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 3, 1967, and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on August 5, 1969.
Bob returned to the area and married Carol Nelson for a short time and adopted her five children. Bob worked at Morton Buildings in Onawa and then Terra Chemical.
On August 4, 1983, Bob married Laura Tompkins at Fowler’s Park near Smithland, IA. They made their home west of Whiting. Bob worked for Kent Feeds in Sioux City for thirty years and retired in July of 2000.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and nature. He attended church at Holly Springs Bible Fellowship, Whiting Christian Church and the Onawa Evangelical Free Church. On February 24, 2013, Bob was baptized into Christ and a new relationship started.
Bob is survived by his wife, Laura of Whiting, IA; five children: LeeAnn Resendiz (Bob) of Byron, MN, Jeff Reitan (Julie) of Whiting, IA, Steve Reitan (Sheila) of Manning, IA, Teresa Jans (Stan) of Dakota City, NE and Vicki Kron (Bryan) of Whiting; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Albert Reitan, Jr. (Tami) of Great Falls, VA; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosemary Murphy.
